IJ Canon PIXMA MG8250 Setup– Canon carries a quite large assortment of printers and all-in-ones. The MG8250 is located at the top of the spectrum PIXMA-all-in-ones. We started working on it.

To get straight to the door at home, with an average price of about 280 euro, the Canon MG8250 is certainly not a cheap all-in-one. At first glance, it even seems a lot, because we are dealing here with one of the most expensive consumers all-in-ones, but there is no ADF or fax functionality on it. So business applications don’t seem to be what this Canon focuses on.

What the MG8250 focuses on, are consumers who are engaged in images, from printing photos to film scanning. In addition to the four usual cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) there are two additional ink tanks in it, namely photo black and grey. This means that it should be possible to make better photo prints than with only the four standard cartridges. In addition, the scanner on the MG8250 is clearly different from the one we find on it as far as we know all the other current consumer-all-in-ones, at least the models we have tested here recently. We will come back here later.

Appearance and connections

The appearance of the MG8250 can only be described as stylish. When he is out, it is a matte black box that creates the illusion that no buttons are sitting at all. The screen with a diagonal of 3.5 inch is then eliminated in the valve of the machine. When you turn on all-in-one, a few buttons suddenly light up, allowing you to navigate through the menus of the MG8250. For example, if you choose ‘ Scan ‘, the buttons that are related to it will be highlighted, similar to how that goes with the MX885 and MX895, also from Canon.

However, the buttons on the MG8250 are not physical in nature, with the exception of the power button. Canon is talking about Intelligent Touch System when it comes to operation via these buttons. This does not only mean that it is capacitive touch buttons, but is also referred to the above-mentioned light up keys at the time they do so. In combination with the pleasant large (3.5 inch) Full colour LCD screen, the operation is excellent. The screen is not by touch to operate and is of the TN-type, so the viewing angles especially from above are not great.

In terms of connections you don’t have to complain very much about the MG8250. Besides a connection for a telephone line (for the fax functionality), everything is actually there. Connecting to the network can be wired as well as wireless, but of course you can still connect it to your computer via USB. Behind a cover are the different card readers (CF, MS, Ms Duo and SD) and underneath we see the PictBridge compatible USB connection.
